Save Hemsby Coastline – Speaking at Friends of the Earth conference.

Inclusive Climate Adaptation: Shaping the UK’s National Adaptation Plan.

Friends of the Earth has been addressing the growing effects of extreme weather events on people’s lives, livelihoods, and communities. With unprecedented floods, wildfires, and droughts occurring more frequently, they have highlighted this critical issue in national media, local communities, and among affected organizations. They argue that the government’s adaptation plan is insufficient and are taking their case to the European Court of Human Rights. They believe that tackling the urgent challenges posed by extreme weather can only be achieved through collective action.

To this end, they brought together organizations and activists representing communities affected by climate adaptation challenges, creating a platform to foster relationships, enhance a shared understanding of key issues, and gather insights from lived experiences that can collaboratively influence the development of the Government’s upcoming National Adaptation Programme. The event served as a forum to discuss the impacts of heatwaves, flooding, and coastal erosion as significant climate adaptation challenges facing communities. The information, inputs, and data from organisations engaged in these issues, along with ongoing discussions, will incorporate lived experiences and perspectives from community partners.
